Amorim made the claim after his side were beaten 3-1 by Brighton at Old Trafford, acknowledging his team must use that moment as a reference point to build from. However club insiders were angry with the comments, report Mail Sport, with one quoted as saying they were "not helpful".

Amorim's side are on track for their worst ever Premier League campaign, with 10 wins required from their final 13 matches to avoid their lowest ever points tally in the competition. They are still involved in the FA Cup and Europa League, but it looks set to be yet another undistinguished campaign.
