Southampton were always going to be the underdogs heading into a Premier League match against Manchester United. On Saturday, the two clubs went head to head at St Mary’s and just one goal ended up separating the two.Unfortunately for the Saints, the advantage swung in United’s favour thanks to a first-half goal from Romelu Lukaku – his eighth of the season in all competitions.Despite losing the match, Mauricio Pellegrino’s men put in a decent performance, and for a large chunk of the game, United switched tactics to become more of a defensive unit.Oriol Romeu, who has become a fan favourite, celebrated his 25th birthday on Sunday, and even though his team did not get the result that they wanted, he did have a special message to the fans.
The coastal club currently sit 11th in the Premier League table after two wins, two draws and two defeats.
In that time, the Saints have scored just four goals, which has raised questions over the team’s attacking threat.
Shane Long, Manolo Gabbiadini and Charlie Austin are the main strikers at Pellegrino’s disposal, but only two goals have been scored between them.
At the other end of the pitch, the club have conceded five goals.
