Luis Suarez has stated that despite the media and the FA supposedly targeting him during his time in England, he is keen to stay at Liverpool and potentially sign a new contract.
The Uruguay international was banned for eight matches after racially abusing Patrice Evra in October, and the South American still maintains his innocence.
Despite rumours linking the skilful attacker with a move away from Merseyside, Suarez has confirmed that he is happy at the Anfield club.
“I would like to stay. Despite everything that happened, I’m happy here, on and off the pitch… and at the club they’re happy with me and want me to stay,” Suarez said in an interview with the Montevideo daily El Pais, translated to English by Sky Sports.
“I have a contract until 2016 and they already want to renew it for me. The coach still believes in me and that’s very important, especially after having been out for eight matches.”
The FA conducted a thorough investigation into the racism scandal, but Suarez has stated that there was no proof of his alleged wrongdoing.
“What hurts me is that I was at the trial and there was no concrete proof.
“It was simply my word against that of the other player and they believed him. That hurt me a lot,” he concluded.
Suarez scored one of Liverpool’s goals in their 2-1 win over Stoke in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.
