As reported by Sky Sports, Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Barcelona midfielder Rafinha this summer.
What’s the story?
The Gunners have already made two first team signings this summer with the acquisitions of Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette but it seems likely that Arsene Wenger will be dipping his toes back into the transfer market after signing a new two-year contract at the club at the end of last season.
One man that could be in Arsenal colours come the new season is versatile Barcelona midfielder Rafinha. Sky Sports say the Brazilian international has been offered to the Gunners this summer and could be available for around £27m.
Is he the kind of midfielder they need to launch an assault on the Premier League title?
What would he offer?
Rafinha has been at Barcelona since the age of 13 and having come through the Barcelona B ranks, he headed to Celta on a season long loan in 2013/14. Since then he’s made 75 appearances for the La Liga giants, though has never quite become a first choice pick.
With the ability to play centrally or on the right flank, he’d add true versatility to Arsene Wenger’s squad along with a creativity and a real goal threat. Last season he managed to score 7 goals for the club despite starting just 16 matches.
Currently struggling to emerge from the shadows at Barcelona, a move to a new club with a fresh start and a chance to prove himself could see him fulfil the potential he has and with Wenger needing more options in midfield he could be a solid signing for the Gunners this summer.
