Manchester United prepare to take on Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-finals of the FA Cup on Saturday evening, knowing that securing the trophy in May could define either club’s season as a success or a failure.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men have improved immensely under the Argentine’s leadership but a trophy hasn’t headed to the white half of North London since the 2008 EFL Cup and the pressure to secure silverware to reaffirm their progress grows with every failure.
Meanwhile, United failed to create a title race and meekly exited both the Champions League and the EFL Cup – with shock defeats to Sevilla and Bristol City – and know that trophies are needed to justify the absence of Spurs’ thrilling football and youthful exuberance at Old Trafford.

Both sides went out of Europe at the last 16 stage and while United currently occupy second place in the Premier League, Spurs could easily catch them in the final throws of the season.
