Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to criticise Luka Milivojevic for his performance in the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle at St James’ Park on Saturday.
The Serbia international was making his 17th Premier League start of the campaign against the Magpies, and came extremely close to opening the scoring with a well-taken, whipped freekick which flew just wide of Martin Dubravka’s top-left corner.
That attempt was just one of Milivojevic’s three shots on goal, with none hitting the target, while he also made two key passes against Steve Bruce’s men.
On the defensive side of things, the former Anderlecht man made three tackles, one clearance and blocked one shot, which seems like a decent shift from the 28-year-old.

However, a portion of Palace fans on Twitter weren’t happy with the captain’s performance on Tyneside, and have taken to their keyboards to express frustration over his showing.
One supporter named Sam thought that the Serb was “absolutely redundant” in the team on Saturday, while also stating that the former Olympiakos man couldn’t make a ten-yard pass, nor did he get stuck in or take control – this fan also feels that Milivojevic needs to be dropped for a game or two.
Another fan called Rich replied to that specific comment, saying that the Palace No.4 needs Gary Cahill to tell him what to do out on the pitch, which is pretty undermining of Milivojevic given his status as captain.
This particular supporter mentioned that Palace’s best performance this term was away to West Ham when Milivojevic was suspended and James McCarthy started in his place, implying that the team operates better without the penalty expert roaming the midfield – harsh words indeed.
Elsewhere, these two supporters highlighted the fact that the Eagles skipper has been poor for a number of months now, with one stating that Milivojevic “should’ve been left out for 18 months now” – such a lengthy period on the sidelines seems like a slight exaggeration, in truth.
Lastly, Victor said that there wasn’t one game he could recall where ‘Luka’ had a positive impact on proceedings.
In other news, Crystal Palace shouldn’t hold their breath over this reported interest in Christian Benteke…
