As the January transfer window kicks in Spurs fans are all waiting to see if Jose Mourinho will bring any new players to the club.
The Special One’s arrival at Tottenham Hotspur marked the beginning of a new era and given their history of not exactly being extravagant buyers – as evidenced by the fact they signed just one player between January 2018 and July 2019 – it will be interesting to see if their is a distinct change in policy under the Portuguese manager.
Reinforcements could well be crucial, though, especially if Spurs are to lose Christian Eriksen, whose contract is due to expire in the summer.

Mourinho has some handy players at his disposal but there’s a lack of depth in the quality of his options out wide.
Granted, Lucas Moura Alli has been decent with four Premier League goals to his name from 19 appearances this season, but the Brazilian is lacking a cutting edge that other wingers in Europe possess.
Of course, his efforts to drag the team over the line in the Champions League last season won’t be forgotten but the 27-year-old has been hit and miss in the ongoing campaign, as we’ll see from his stats down below.
Spurs were recently linked with Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech in an exclusive report by 90min, and now a report from Calciomercato suggests the 26-year-old is free to leave the club this month.
With that in mind, it’s about time to consider how much firepower he’ll be able to add to Mourinho’s squad. If the stats are anything to go by, he should be a massive upgrade on Moura, with Ziyech miles ahead in all vital attacking categories, offering a dose of creativity and potency.
The only stat in which Moura is relatively close to Ziyech is in goals scored, as he only trails by two at the moment with four compared to six.
But Ziyech’s domestic goal contribution stands at 18 compared to Moura’s five, which is already telling enough of the gap there is between the two players.
It is, of course, worth noting that the Ajax star is playing in a division that is widely accepted to be qualitatively inferior to the Premier League, but even with that in mind it’s impossible to ignore the disparity in the output of the two players.
The Dutchman also averages more shots, key passes and dribbles per game, highlighting just how good he is on the ball – his 4.6 shots, 3.6 key passes and 2.8 dribbles are much higher than the Brazilian’s 1.5 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game.
It also must be noted that Ziyech is a certain starter at his club while Moura has often been deployed as an impact sub, as evidenced by his 11 starts and eight substitute appearances in the ongoing campaign compared to his counterpart’s 17 starts.
Calciomercato stated that Ajax value their star at around €50m (£43m), which is a significant outlay to part with in the mid-season window.
But for a player of that quality, it would be well worth it.
