Gareth Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, has rubbished the idea of his client returning to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, per talkSPORT.
What’s the word?
A report from Marca on Tuesday claimed that Spurs are interested in the possibility of re-signing the Wales international, who left the club in a world-record deal in 2013.
He moved for £85m, eclipsing Cristiano Ronaldo as the most expensive footballer on the planet at the time, and the piece reported that Spurs would be willing to pay between €50m (£45.1m) and €60m (£54.2m) for the 30-year-old.
However, Barnett gave short shrift to the rumours when asked.
He said: “I don’t comment on rubbish”.
Bale scored 56 goals and registered 58 assists in 203 outings for Spurs.

A nonsense story
Bale’s return was never going to happen, particularly not in this transfer window.
Spurs have already broken their transfer record to secure the signing of Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon and have also bought Jack Clarke from Leeds United.
A deal to sign Bale for a minimum of £45.1m looks decent on paper but Marca also claimed that they would be willing to pay half of his €17m (£15.3m) salary. That’s £7.65m or weekly wages of £147,000.
If he signs a three-year contract, that would come to an outlay of £22.9m on wages alone, and a total of £68m when the transfer fee is included.
For a club like Spurs, those sums simply don’t add up, not now and probably not ever.
Bale has also just turned 30, meaning there is precious little chance of chairman Daniel Levy being able to turn a profit on his investment.
It simply doesn’t make any sense.
