Bayern Munich's sporting director Christoph Freund has heaped praise on Harry Kane, suggesting both the club and player would be interested in extending his contract. Freund's comments are the latest in a concerted effort by the club's leadership to head off rumours about a possible return to the Premier League for the 32-year-old, whose deal expires in 2027.
Freund says Kane and Bayern can both 'imagine continuing together'
Freund was speaking in an extensive interview with . When quizzed about the future of his side's prolific striker, the sporting director took the opportunity to wax lyrical about Kane's form, adding to a recent onslaught of positivity from the club's hierarchy.
Freund said: "We're probably witnessing the best version of Harry Kane there has ever been. He's a perfect player for us, and Harry feels very comfortable in Munich, with the team and his family. That's why we hope he'll stay in Munich for a few more years."
When pushed on how long that relationship may continue, he replied: "It's still too early to discuss it in detail. I think both sides can easily imagine continuing together beyond the end of the current contract."

Kane's contract situation at Bayern has been a hot topic of late, as reports of a clause that would allow the striker to be released for a fee of £57m ($77m) emerged. That led to mounting speculation of a return to the Premier League, allowing Kane to chase down Alan Shearer's all-time goals record in the competition. Thomas Frank stoked those fires, saying the England captain would be "more than welcome" to return to Tottenham.
Kane and Bayern leadership's comments on the future
That brought several comments on the star's futures from both the player himself, and key players in the Bayern's hierarchy.
Speaking after scoring twice in last Friday's 4-0 win over Werder Bremen, Kane was positive about a possible contract renewal. When asked about starting up negotiations with the club, he said: "We can certainly talk about that. I have almost two years left. It's mot like I'm in the final year of my contract and anyone is panicking. I'm fine. The club is fine. I think they're happy with me, and I'm happy with hem. Those discussions can take place."
Freund's fellow sporting director Max Eberl echoed that sentiment. Speaking ahead of Bayern's Champions League game against Cypriot outfit Pafos – a game in which Kane would again bag a brace – he suggested contract negotiations would start soon.
"A collaboration beyond 2027 is absolutely conceivable," Eberl said. "That’s why we will discuss the next steps with him in a relaxed manner. He’s an absolute leader – it would be awesome to win titles with him, and he said that too. We want to do that with him for a long time to come."

Freund's comments may sound a tad hyperbolic, seeing as Kane has established himself as one of world football's most prolific, complete and consistent strikers. However, the numbers seem to back up his assertion.
Vincent Kompany has deployed the 32-year-old as a second striker behind Nicolas Jackson recently, allowing Kane to be more influential in build-up play. Not only has Kane demonstrated his playmaking chops, he has actually accelerated his goalscoring.
Kane has scored 18 goals and logged three assists in just 10 competitive games this season; that averages out to 2.18 goal contributions per 90 minutes. Assuming he plays the same number of minutes as last term, he is on pace for 87 goals and assists in 2025-26; a significant uptick on the 56 he logged in the 2024-25 season.
