Leeds United have edged ever so much closer to the title race ahead of the final ten games of the season, and Phil Hay’s latest update on their manager Marcelo Bielsa is only going to raise confidence levels.
What’s he said?
The Whites thrashed Hull City 4-0 on Saturday afternoon to move to within one point of league leaders West Brom, also making it four successive victories.
Bielsa’s men are now five points clear of the playoffs and they’ll want to keep it that way if reports from ElDesmarque are to be believed as they claim La Liga outfit Real Betis are eyeing the Argentine to be their manager next season.
Hay has been quick to play down such links, however, as his source claims there is “absolutely nothing” in it.
He added:
Bielsa future
It seems as if the key factor between Bielsa staying at Elland Road and leaving for pastures new is promotion this campaign. Not next season, or the one after – this year.
And they have every chance of doing so if they keep this form up.

Leeds have racked up four wins, four clean sheets despite changing goalkeeper and have bagged seven goals – they look like the side we saw overtake the Baggies earlier in the campaign, they just can’t afford to slip up and let the likes of Fulham and co back in.
It could be argued that without promotion, Bielsa has taken the west Yorkshire side as far as he possibly can because if they’ve fallen short in back-to-back attempts, what’s to say the same doesn’t happen once again.
Premier League football hasn’t been seen at Elland Road since 2004, there’s no doubt that the 64-year-old would etch his name in folklore if he is the man to steer them back after a 16-year absence. That’s if he hasn’t been already as he’s a supremely popular figure around these parts.
